BASICS:
Close to downtown, and the lakefront, Roscoe Village is one of the most popular places to live. It has a small neighborhood feel, pretty streets, nice restaurants & shops and is conveniently located.
Access in and out of the city just means a quick hop onto the expressway, and traveling to the loop is only a four mile drive or a short train ride away. The brown line "El" stops on Addison making a downtown commute painless.
It is only a few minutes from Wrigley Field, so it is easy to enjoy a home game without dealing with parking and public transportation.
HOUSING:
Roscoe Village offers a wonderful mix of renovated 19th century and early 20th century single family homes and small multi-unit vintage buildings, many on larger than average lots, and today there is a building boom of new construction single family homes and condominiums.
LOCATION:
The boundaries of Roscoe Village are Addison Street on the north, Belmont Avenue on the south, and Ravenswood Avenue on the east, and the Chicago River on the west.
HISTORY:
This part of Chicago was originally inhabited mostly by German immigrants, After the Great Chicago Fire much of the area had to be rebuilt. What emerged are the classic red brick homes and the beautiful storefronts that still exist today. The beautiful riverfront was once home to the Riverview Amusement Park. Roscoe Village now is home to many established city families, and has become attractive to the many young Chicago professionals working downtown.
SHOPS:
Small specialty shops cater to a large crowd and "Antiques Row" offers five blocks of antique stores, the largest in the Midwest. Through the summer months, the Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce offers a weekly farmer's market and a Harvest Fest in September.
DINING:
Roscoe Village dinning scene is still growing. The main street (Roscoe Ave.) features many good spots for everything from sushi, Italian, Guatemalan, to American and pub grub.
SPECIAL EVENT:
The Retro on Roscoe neighborhood festival draws over 35,000 guests to Roscoe Village each August. Featuring four blocks of entertainment, cuisines from around the world, artisans, and family activities. Retro livens up the tree-lined streets for an enjoyable, weekend festival that brings back great memories while providing an exciting venue for the entire family.
