BASICS:

The Neighborhood of Wrigleyville is really a sub-neighborhood of Lakeview. It is centered on the famous Wrigley Field ballpark, home of the Chicago Cubs. Wrigleyville consists of homes, sports bars, restaurants, theaters, and souvenir shops.

HOUSING:

Wrigleyville boasts many beautifully rehabbed Victorian greystones, two- and three-flat buildings, and multi-unit condominiums. Just west of the ballpark is Alta Vista Terrace, a historic street with beautiful row houses that resemble an old English town.

Most notable housing in Wrigleyville is directly across the street from Wrigley Field. These vintage apartment buildings have rooftop seating that is filled for every Cubs home game.

LOCATION:

Wrigleyville boundaries are not officially delineated. Common area markers have Wrigleyville bordered at the north at 4000 N Irving Park; the south border being 3500 N Cornelia; the east border being 900 W Fremont; and the west border being 1200 W Racine.

HISTORY:

Irish immigrants, who still have a strong presence, settled the area where Wriggleyville sits. But the real history of this neighborhood begins in 1926 when William Wrigley, the creator of Juicy Fruit Chewing Gum, bought Weeghman Park and named it Wrigley Field after himself.

In 1981 William Wrigley sold Wrigley Field to The Tribune Company for 20.5 million dollar after owning it for 65 years.

Another historical interest is the Graceland Cemetery at the northern tip of Wrigleyville. It is the resting place of many Chicago legends and leaders.

SHOPS:

A part of the Lakeview community, Wrigleyville has excellent theaters and some of the city's most eclectic shops, all within walking distance.

DINING:

Wrigleyville also has many excellent restaurants that range from Chicago-style hotdogs and fries and trendy comfort foods, to upscale full-service restaurants. Plus, there are ample clubs and venues to see live music and dance.

SPECIAL EVENT:

The special events in this neighborhood are the home games of the Chicago Cubs, whose season runs from March to October.

ZIP CODES:

The primary zip code for Chicago's Wrigleyville neighborhood is 60613.
